Thoughts To Ponder

Don’t wait until everything is just right. It will never be perfect. There will always be challenges, obstacles and less than perfect conditions. So what. Get started now. Lunch with the First Lady~Michelle Obama

Click on Lunch with the First Lady for the link to her speech~

Today I am grateful to my husband for serving our country. It is because of his job that I had the opportunity to meet the First Lady of the United States. Michelle Obama came and spoke at this function called the JAFOWL-Joint Armed Forces Officers' Wives' Luncheon-which is a once a year event held for all the five different branches of service (Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines, and Coast Guards)...

The event started back in 1977 and has been sponsored by each of the different services for all these years. Actually, the table I was sitting at had several ladies that have attended this luncheon over 30 years!!! WOW!!!!! The purpose of this event is to bring all the military branches together and create "oneness" with the wives-it was very interesting to chat with ladies from other eras and branches of services. Honestly, the gal I was sitting with and I were one of the youngest in the group of 400 ladies...

Michelle Obama had a very touching message to all of us wives and thanked us for our countless hours of providing for our families while our husbands are defending the front lines and keeping our country safe. The part of her speech I found the most interesting was when she talked about their family transition into the White House and how even though she is the First Lady, she too had to find her way and get her kids situated in school, and help them with making friends. It just goes to show you that it doesn't matter what rank/position you are everyone has the same day to day challenges....I hope you enjoy her speech, I sure did!

This was a quote in our program and I thought it ht the nail on the head of what it truly is to be a military spouse and summed up our life journey very well~

"As military spouses, you are all charge with making homes for your families while living with the challenges and responsibilities of the military life.

You keep the porch light burning when your spouse is deployed, volunteer in the community to improve the quality of life for those around you, and give love and encouragement to children.

Yours is a selfless mission of support, understanding, and balance; your achievements are many and your dedication is to be admired."

The Air Force has been an amazing way of life and I have truly enjoyed all the many wonderful people we have met, places, we have been, and experiences we never dreamed of having. YEs, there are tough times, but we all have them and it's about keeping strong and knowing as my Mommy always says "Alaina, this too shall pass"....

I want to thank Scott for being the husband that makes sure I know that he appreciates all that I do for him and our family...it's those little sweet moments that make me smile and keep me going from day to day. :)

Have a happy day~

Love, Alaina :)
