Thoughts To Ponder

Don’t wait until everything is just right. It will never be perfect. There will always be challenges, obstacles and less than perfect conditions. So what. Get started now. With each step you take, you will grow stronger and stronger, more and more skilled, more and more self-confident, and more and more successful. Mark Victor Hansen

Random Acts of Kindness~

What benefit do you think there is in spending over 100+ hours on learning Spanish when you are in the states and don't have a use for it? There didn't seem to be much of any benefit other than to pass ACSC in June until Scott found out today that there is a benefit...on his way to school he saw a Hispanic gentleman on the side of the road who needed help. Scott pulled over to help this guy who didn't speak a lick of English and asked him what he needed? He needed directions...thankfully, Scott had JUST finished the unit on directions this weekend so he was able to help him. I know the hours of learning a language are agonizing and very time consuming, but it was heartwarming for him to share this story with me and feel like he made a difference for someone in their day with his Espanol knowledge.
A few weeks ago, we were at Chappy's (our favorite little deli) on a "lunch date." Scott asked for the bill. They didn't bring us the bill because the waiter told us that some sweet lady who wanted to remain anonymous paid for our lunch and already left the tip. Scott was in uniform and she said to tell him "thank you for your service!"....that was very unexpected and greatly appreciated.
I hope you find little blessings like these in your days as well and make time to do "random acts of kindness" for others~ :)
"Kindness is an inner desire that makes us want to do good things even if we do not get anything in return. It is the joy of our life to do them. When we do good things from this inner desire, there is kindness in everything we think, say, want and do"- Emanuel Swedenborg
Much love and have a happy week~ Alaina :)

  1. What a sweet post. If you move to Arizona at any point Scott will be very glad to know Spanish. There were so many times I wish I had known it. I remember seeing a young mother with a sweet new baby in Sears one day. We were waiting for large pick-up items. I wanted to tell her how beautiful the baby was and have a conversation with her in Spanish, but I couldn't. That was only one time that I wish I could have spoken Spanish while living there. There were so many other times.

  2. Oh, you didn't tell us this story...about the check that is. That is really very nice. Maybe we should all eat out in uniform more often! :)
